He was making his cosmetic products for glamorous yet realistic looks on screen. In 1916 he started selling eyeshadows and pencils. This was the first time these sorts of products were available outside the movie industry. Four years from then he launched a full range of cosmetics or makeup as he used to call it. The products and techniques that he created for the movie industry and his Hollywood clients earned him an Oscar. Which helped build his guiding philosophy, which was that any women can be glamorous given the right tools and make up artsy skills.
